Every tier is matched funding. You'll need to show you can spend at least $20,000 of your own money on eligible activities before Austrade tops it up.
- Are You Eligible?
The EMDG isn't just for first time exporters.
It runs across every stage, from businesses about to make their first sale overseas through to those already established in a market and pushing into the next one. You're likely in the running if the following sounds like you.
- ›You're an Australian business with an ABN, ready to export or already exporting
- ›Your product, service, event, IP or software is of substantially Australian origin
- ›You can show the capacity to spend at least $20,000 of your own money on eligible export marketing activities
- ›You're chasing costs like overseas representatives, buyer visits, trade fairs, marketing materials, IP protection or export training
- Why Timing Matters
EMDG rounds don't stay open. They fill by tier, then they're done.
Austrade allocates a set pool of funding to each tier and pays it out first in, first served. Round 4 covered the 2025 to 2026 and 2026 to 2027 financial years and has already closed. The timing of the next round hasn't been confirmed, and it's sitting behind an independent review of the program.
The businesses that get funded are the ones with a finished application sitting ready, not the ones starting to write it the week the portal opens.
