How to add a tax agent to the R&D Portal

What is the R&D Tax Incentive Customer Portal?

The R&D Tax Incentive customer portal is a digital platform to facilitate the process of claiming the Research and Development (R&D) Tax Incentive. The R&D Tax Incentive is a government program designed to encourage businesses to invest in research and development activities by providing tax incentives or rebates. The customer portal typically serves as an online interface where eligible businesses can:

  1. Register for the R&D Tax Incentive program.
  2. Lodge R&D Tax Incentive applications and claims.
  3. Manage and track the progress of their R&D claims.
  4. Communicate with government agencies responsible for administering the incentive program.

Authorising portal access for a tax agency or R&D consultancy

The principal authority or authorisation administrator of your company can authorise access of a tax agency or R&D consultancy by using the Manage access option in the R&DTI customer portal.1.

  1. Login to the R&DTI customer portal.
Click the ‘Manage access’ option on the ‘Manage your applications’ dashboard.
  2. Click ‘Add new authorisation’ on the ‘Manage Access’ screen, under the ‘Business authorisations’ heading.
  3. Enter Granton’s ABN (28 670 242 065 – Granton Holdings Pty Ltd) so that we can get authorised.
  4. Select ‘Tax professional’ as the relationship.
  5. Enter the start and end dates for the authorisation period. Note the start date can’t be back dated.
  6. Click ‘Add authorisation’.
  7. Inform the consultant you have been speaking with that they can now log in to the R&DTI customer portal.

If no one else has been linked to your company before, the principal authority will need to get portal access first.

Note: Manage access gives all authorised staff access to your portal
Giving access to a tax agency or consultancy will allow all authorised staff within that tax agency or consultancy to access your information in the portal. They’ll be able to view all information in the portal.

Not working? You may need to setup myGovID – Try the steps below

Registering your business through the R&DTI Portal:
As a principal authority of CLIENT Pty Ltd, your myGovID should already be linked to the company’s ABN. This must be completed before you can authorise access to the customer portal for yourself or anyone else. If this has not been done for your business before, you can do this yourself as a principal authority:

  1. Set up your myGovID, if you haven’t already done so. You’ll need a myGovID to log in to ATO’s Relationship Authorisation Manager later. Click here to learn how to set up your myGovID.
  2. Contact the ATO to link your myGovID to your company’s ABN. Click here to find out how to link your business.
  3. Log in to Relationship Authorisation Manager Help and authorise yourself to act on behalf of your business in the R&DTI customer portal.
  4. You can find additional help and support on the Relationship Authorisation Manager help page including contact details.

Once you have authorised yourself as a Principal Authority you can log into the R&DTI customer portal and register for the R&DTI.

Please note that the process and features of the R&D Tax Incentive customer portal may change over time, and we recommend visiting the official AusIndustry website or contacting them directly for the most current and detailed guidance on how to use the portal and navigate the R&D Tax Incentive program.
